I had an awesome weekend with lots of family fun. On Friday night we met up with their Aunt Jamie and cousins Jeralyn and Jayla at Largo Central Park for a movie. The city of Largo often inflates a massive screen and shows free movies in the middle of the park. This weekend they showed A Dolphin Tale, starring Winter the Dolphin and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. They also have themed activities before the movie, but we didn’t care there early enough for that.
We stopped by Publix for some chicken tenders, pickles, chips and cheese and packed it into my new awesome Columbia cooler bag that I got for $20 at TJ Maxx (my favorite store!). We brought a big blanket and settled in for the movie at dusk. A local church gave out popcorn and glow sticks, which kept the kids very busy. Wesley sat in the stroller and Alistair snuggled up in my lap and they happily watched the whole movie (ended at 10pm). I think we’ll go again this Friday for the showing of Happy Feet Two. Doesn’t look there are any more movies planned after this, but you can go to Clearwater Beach for the Sunset Cinema nearly every weekend I think.
We slept in on Saturday because the boys went to bed VERY LATE, so family time was rescheduled for the afternoon. We decided to keep it low key this weekend because last Saturday we went to the Florida Aquarium and next weekend we’re going to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium with my parents. <– Both trips are free with our Great Explorations Great membership!!! So we finally put together Alistair’s Air Hogs Titan Stunt Glider (only $10 at Target!) and take it for a spin. We all had a blast taking turns flying it. Alistair’s flights were very short and often ended with a crash, but thankfully you can just pop the wings and tail back on. Dan and I faired a little better and Wesley spent most of the time on the playground. Here are few photos of our not-so-high-flying fun.
After running around, we took a quick trip to Treasure Island for an icy treat. Last summer we discovered Beach Snoballs while on our mini vacation at The Delacado on Sunset Beach. I was anxious to go back. I can’t believe it took us 8 months to go again. Snoballs are kind of like Sno-cones but the ice is shaved super fine (to order) so they’re much more soft. Plus the flavors are made by the owners right there in house. They also come with toppings, like New Orleans Cream (sweetened condensed milk), cherries, pineapple and sprinkles. They have dozens of syrups to choose from and you can combine them any way you like or you can choose one of their specialties.
Dan had the Treasure Island Sunset, which I think was a combination of strawberry, pineapple and coconut syrups with crushed pineapple, coconut flakes and New Orleans Cream on top. Alistair had a Green Apple and it turned his tongue dark green, which he loved. I ordered the Peaches and Cream and added Strawberry syrup to it. My whole mouth turned dark read, which also gave Alistair much delight.
The customer service at Snoballs is really good. One of the owners, September, talked to us for several minutes about social media and marketing while there wasn’t a line. She said they were rated the #1 Restaurant on Treasure Island by TripAdvisor and recently won Best Customer Service by Pinellas Beaches Patch. I can definitely see why. We’ll have to come back and try more flavors this summer. If you’ve been here, I’d love to hear what flavors you love in a comment below.

Thanks so much for the write-up, Jenn! Looks like you guys had a great weekend. Glad you all enjoyed your snoballs! See you again!

We’ll be back soon for stuffed Snoballs soon!
I have to agree. Beach Snoballs is the greats thing going on the beach around here
